About this video
Nintendo just dropped the Elden Ring Nintendo Switch 2 Gameplay Showcase Trailer — so we didn't just react to it, we tested it. I ran the full trailer through a frame analyzer, isolated every frame, and measured the time between them to see what the Switch 2 version's performance actually looks like before launch.
Here's what the data found:
• Average FPS: 31.52
• 1% Low: 15 fps
• 0.1% Low: 4.32 fps
• 16 stutter events across the trailer
I broke the trailer down segment by segment — cutscene vs. real gameplay, the Red Wolf of Radagon fight, the Agheel dragon slam, and the one spell-cast moment where what I saw on screen didn't match the frame data (worth a re-test at launch).
Big takeaways:
1. Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Switch 2 is very likely targeting 30fps
2. Expect dips during VFX-heavy boss fights (Maliketh, Malenia, Shadow of the Erdtree bosses)
3. This could be a huge number of players' first time experiencing Elden Ring — and that's genuinely exciting, performance caveats aside
I'll be testing again once the game officially launches to see if a day-one patch changes anything.
Let me know in the comments: are you playing Elden Ring on Switch 2? What other trailers or games should I run through the frame analyzer next?
